What do most kids have in common? If you had a normal childhood, chances are your parents tried to make you eat your veggies, many times in vain. How could those cruel adults force you to eat all those disgusting vegetables?! Well, with all the health problems and health risks that we presently face, now we know exactly why! And this was exactly why The Big C held “Oh, My Gulay! Eats a treat—the cancer-diet habit” last March 8 at the Asian Hospital & Medical Center. Organized in partnership with the Asian Hospital and Project Pink Cancer Support Group, the event focused on food toxins, the benefits of eating veggies, and the advantages of oil-less cooking (certain types of fat are strongly linked to cancer).

Speaker Dr. Romulo de Villa
Taking center stage was Dr. Romulo de Villa, molecular and nutritional oncologist and founder of the Molecular Oncology Society of the Philippines, who extensively discussed toxins in foods—the “toxic” facts and the importance of vegetables in sickness prevention, particularly in cancer.

Event host Melissa de Leon-Joseph
After the talk, Inosphil Corporation, the country’s distributor of prime-quality surgical stainless-steel cookware, conducted a greaseless cooking demo, whipping up recipes from banana-cues to pansit to the delight of the participants.

Attending the event were Asian Hospital’s chief medical officer Dr. Antonio Rivera, who gave the opening remarks, Project Pink members led by Jojette Yuhico, cancer survivors with their families and friends, and doctors. Melissa de Leon-Joseph served as host.

“Oh, My Gulay!” was made possible with the help of friends from Inosphil, RiteMed, Quaker Oats, Janssen Pharmaceutica (maker of Velcade, Eprex, and Motilium), and Clorox International Philippines (maker of Glad, Clorox, Tilex, Pinesol, and Anywhere Spray). Special acknowledgments go to Noli Romero and Marlyn Rosas Gilam for their contributions. Our gratitude as well for the support given by Dr. Mae Corvera, Angie Laborte, Ruth Corvera, and Joy Trinidad, founding member of Project Pink.
Thank you all!
